sams dragon

Sam's Dragon was designed in March 2002 by my son Sam - he was nearly 6 1/2 years old at the time. It is embroidered both in gold purls and coloured purls exactly to his design. Imagine his teacher's response when he went to school and announced that he was an embroidery designer! It hangs proudly over his bed. It is stitched over a background of scrunched silk paper.

peacocks glory

Peacock's Glory has received some interesting comments. While still at the framers and leaning against the back wall, a customer said to the shopkeeper "what a great idea, framing peacock feathers". The same comment has been made many a time over and it makes me laugh, as when next to actual feathers you can see how stylized I made them. The piece is worked in goldwork embroidery, the centre vein of the feathers being alternating silver smooth and bright check purl with gunmetal grey purl. The eye of the feathers are worked using both gold and coloured bullion as close to the actual colours as possible. The side quills are couched in opal couching thread and the piece is worked on black German cotton velvet.
