Azalea and Jezebel
This piece is a completely three dimensional piece that lives under
a dome in my hallway. It was completed in 2008 to exhibit in the
Embroiderers’ Guild Annual Exhibition – it had been started in
2001 – yes, that’s right – I finished a UFO!

Or Nué Iris
This iris is worked in the goldwork technique known as Or Nué.
Or Nué is thread painting using couching stitches. It measures
approximately 9 centimetres by 13 centimetres and is row upon
row of #6 smooth passing thread, couched by 1 strand of Madeira
#3 in the gold areas and 1 strand of Au Ver a Soie Silk to achieve
the design.

Australian Bush
This piece was worked for the challenge section of the Ballarat Embroiderer's
Guild's Beaches to Bush Exhibition in March 2006. It is worked on a hand dyed
habutai silk background with painted mulberry bark applied for the trunk of the
tree. The leaves are embroidered in double sided brick stitch and are then
applied to wired branches made also of mulberry bark. The Emperor Gum Moth
has detached wings of silk highlighted with spangles and coloured purl, a body
of purl and antennae made from emu feathers.

Rebekah's Cushion
This is a photo of my daughter Rebekah's cushion, that she made for
the Embroiderers' Guild of America Youth Exhibit, which ran from March
to May 2007. She started off designing the piece on paper and then
dyed the silk according to her design. After she steamed set the dye
and ironed the piece, I laced it onto a frame for her to embroider.
She embroidered the dragonflies in Au Ver a Soie silks and metal threads
and then made up the cushion on the sewing machine - putting in her first
zip all by herself - what a treasure!
